Noise

I have (unfortunately) made industrial and noise music since 2005, solo as Ad·ver·sary and with Nick Thériault as Antigen Shift. You may have also seen me performing live with Cyanotic or iVardensphere.

I also spent many years DJing goth, industrial and dark alternative nights, and raves, and most of the 2000s as a resident at Industrial Strength, a long-running industrial night at Zaphod Beeblebrox in Ottawa. I co-founded Dark Carnival, an Ottawa arts and music festival that ran for ten years and put live concerts alongside metal sculpting, firebreathing workshops, and robotics.

...but the thing I'm most known for in music is a show I played in Montreal. In 2012 the Kinetik Festival booked me to open for two of its headliners. I closed the set by playing We Demand Better, a backing video calling out the misogynist and racist imagery and lyrics the two headliners used. A lot has been said about it, mostly good. A couple diss tracks have been written about it, mostly bad. S. Alexander Reed discusses the performance in Assimilate: A Critical History of Industrial Music (Oxford University Press), and Alison L. Fraser writes about it in Under My Thumb: Songs That Hate Women and the Women Who Love Them.
